Currently, 24 UK Universities are a part of the Russell Group. The Russell Group represents these top UK Universities which are known to be world-class, dynamic and global education institutions. The Russell Group itself is fairly new, it’s board members who were the heads of the respective Universities, started the first meet in 1994. The Russell Group was set up as an incorporated organisation very recently in the year 2007. The member institutions are aware of the global changes, cultural impacts and have policy development guidelines as they are members of this prestigious group.

What is the purpose of the Russell Group?

The Russell Group aims to ensure that the member universities have favourable studying conditions for their incoming students, both global and Uk students. A critical role that Russel Group plays is that of a facilitator to the member Universities — in particular providing strategy and policy development.   • Recent statistics show that the Russell Group Universities produce nearly two-thirds of the world-leading research produced in the UK universities and also extend support to more than 300,000 jobs in the United Kingdom.
  • Currently their economic output is stated to be over £32 billion a year.
  • Studies show that in the year 2015-16, nearly 417,000 undergraduates and over 192,500 postgraduates studied at a member University of the Russell Group.
