The University of Southampton is a founding member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities in the UK and has been consistently ranked in the top 100 universities in the world. With seven campuses around Southampton, the university hosts nearly 15000 students. The Avenue Campus houses the School of Humanities, whereas the National Oceanography Centre provides courses in Ocean and Earth Sciences. The Southampton General Hospital offers courses in Medicine and Health Sciences, and the Boldrewood Campus caters to studies in engineering and maritime technology. The university also has a School of Art in Winchester and an international branch in Malaysia that offers courses in Engineering. The University of Southampton Students' Union, is actively involved with the students and also provides support and social activities ranging from involvement in the Union's four media outlets, to any of the over 200 affiliated societies and nearly 80 sporting activities.The university has its own sports ground which is available for student’s use and has a sports centre on the main campus.
