The University of Bristol has a reputation for innovation since it was established in 1876. Although it received its royal charter in 1909, the University’s roots can be traced back to the Merchant Venturers' school founded in 1595. Its research focuses on some of the world’s most critical issues across diverse areas such as human rights, climate change, cryptography and even information security. With six academic faculties, the university consists of multiple schools and departments providing over 200 undergraduate courses. Every year the university sends more than 500 students to partner institutions in Europe, for its Erasmus Charter programme. The University of Bristol ranks among the world's top 60 as per the QS World University Rankings 2021. The university has a reputation for innovation and it provides world-class education, this is reflected in the many Nobel Prizes won and Fellowships associated with the University. Among its alumni and staff the university has 9 Nobel laureates. It is a part of the Russell Group, the European-wide Coimbra Group as well as the Worldwide Universities Network
